The Problem

With 75% of the world’s population spending hours hunched over their devices daily, "Text Neck" has become a growing health concern. Many people are unaware of their bad posture and struggle to stay motivated to correct it.

The Solution

WeaUp, a cross-plaform app that help people monitor and improve their neck posture in a fun and engaging way.

Posture Monitoring

Monitor your neck posture with sensor from your phone or earbuds, offering 2 flexible options:

  1. Active Monitoring for background tracking throughout the day

  2. Session Monitoring for focused monitoring periods

Real-time Feedback

Wally reacts in real time based on your posture—giving you visual and haptic feedback to help you stay aligned and motivated.

Posture Analytics

Gain insights into your posture habits over time, helping you track progress, identify trends, and make informed adjustments to achieve your posture goals effectively.

Collaborative Challenges

Stay motivated with friends! Set shared goals, join friendly competitions, and support each other on your journey to better posture.

Initial Research

Understanding user's needs through 8 interviews

We conducted 8 user interviews with a diverse group—including office workers, students, and health-conscious individuals—to gather insights on their needs, pain points and experiences with posture correction.

To better understand the market, we analyzed three existing posture apps (Posture Pal, Qawam, and Ergo/), focusing on their features, usability, engagement strategies, and effectiveness.

Insight #1

Users are unaware of their posture until pain become noticeable.

Insight #2

Comfort is prioritized over posture correction by many users.

Insight #3

Wearing external posture devices all day is uncomfortable for most users.

Insight #4

Users wanted a more engaging, motivating way to improve their habits.

Persona

Based on our findings, we created two detailed personas which represent our target uses' behaviours, goals, challenges and preferences.

Competitor Analysis

Identifying market opportunities from existing posture apps

We analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of our competitors, Posture Pal, Qawam, and Ergo. These insights shaped WeaUp’s posture monitoring approach—integrating both internal and external sensors—along with its gamification features and cross-platform accessibility, helping it stand out in the market as a more engaging and effective solution.

Wireframes & Usability Testing

Transforming concepts into mid-fi wireframes & prototypes

Based on our research insights, we created mid-fidelity wireframes and prototypes, focusing on 4 main features: Posture Monitoring, Real-time Feedback, Collaborative Challenges and Posture Analytics, as well as the onboarding experience.

We conducted usability testing sessions with 3 users, gathering insights that helped us refine the user experience and build a strong foundation for the app. As the test coordinator and moderator, I was responsible for recruiting participants, preparing testing materials, facilitating the sessions, and analyzing the results.

Animation & Interaction

How to create an emotionally engaging experience?

As the mascot of our app, Wally is a posture buddy designed to support users in improving their posture. I created Wally’s interactive animations using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, and Lottie Files, ensuring it reacts dynamically to users' behaviour in real-time, providing guidance and encouragement throughout the posture correction process.

Active Monitoring

When user maintains good posture, Wally stands upright and happy. When their posture needs improvement, Wally’s pose and expression change as a gentle reminder to adjust.

Session Monitoring

Wally appears in a side view to represent user's neck angle. This perspective makes it easier to visualize posture alignment and make necessary adjustments.

Tap Animation

When user taps on Wally on the home screen, Wally waves and sends out hearts as a friendly greeting.

Marketing Design

How to promote our app?

I created the promotional video, social media content, and a one-pager to support our product presentation and enhance our brand visibility.
